I continue getting reminders from my dealer that I demand to have my fuel injectors cleaned. Is this something that actually helps or is it just a way for them to stick me for an extra repair nib?
  2. Electronic mail reminders? Look for unsubscribe push. And yes: just snake oil.

Salve your money...unnecessary service on a Prius.

    Volition not increase MPG.
No benefit if vehicle is running smoothly.
Will non necessary prolong the life of the metals and plastic used in the F.I. component arrangement.

If vehicle has a rough/ lump idle and then you lot can wait to a fuel inj. consequence and clean or supervene upon.
If a performance vehicle, even new injectors, can have their spray pattern optimized; non necessary in a Prius.

If you lot wish to go on your fuel system make clean and also aid with carbon build up in the combustion bedroom, apply top tier fuels only and add together some Techron (or like product) through the fuel tank so change the motor oil and filter to affluent out the residue the Techron loosened.....IMO.

I am with Mendel above...dealer snake oil.

May or may not (slightly) improve your injector part. Definitely lightens your wallet.

These days nearly proper name brand gasoline has enough fuel injection additives already. It used to be recommended prior to almost universal use of additives which, for the almost part, were included because of the widespread employ of fuel injectors. Mass air flow sensors and throttle bodies sometimes need cleaning.

Believe it or not, they may not fifty-fifty know they are sending it out. Comes equally a "complimentary" service to the dealer when they buy things from say "reynolds & reynolds" or some other company. (They access your customer list, and send these "costless emails" every bit a service to you lot the dealer to help bring in additional service income.)

Just hit the unsubscribe link - easiest thing you can do there.

    Skilful advice, mostly.

I requite all my vehicles an appropriate dose of Techron at each oil modify .....myself.

Highly unlikely that annihilation that the fuel treatment "removes" volition stop up in the crankcase though.
No demand for an extra oil change.

Only if you are Actually worried virtually that part, do the Techron treatment one tankful Earlier your scheduled oil change.

Oh, and yeah the dealer's recommendation for injector cleaning is mostly unnecessary and/or style overpriced.

Or only buy Texaco or Chevron gas and get Techron in every tank.

Then please explain how oil gets dirty? Might it exist combustion byproducts that blow past the rings and enter the crankcase.

So if the dissolved deposits and the chemicals that are solvents to those deposits are too able to bypass the rings' sealing with the cylinder walls, practice you really want that gunk and those solvents (the enemy of oil) in your oil for the adjacent 5k miles?

I'm for using Techron every 30k or and so miles ii tanks run low earlier an oil change especially if you are running that oil modify the intervals most manufacturers now propose.

Call up most gas has those solvents already but in much smaller dilutions.

The proposition of changing the oil immediately subsequently a dose of carb or injector cleaner pre-supposes that:
    1) There is a large quantity of deposits that will exist removed and 2) That a pregnant percentage of what is loosened will get past the rings.
    Neither is true......in most cases.

The "Clay" that gets into the oil happens over THOUSANDS of miles and role of it is the components of the oil itself breaking down.

How many miles do you have on this vehicle at present?

...breaking down, and the vesture and tears on those metal components as well.

If you lot want to clean carbs or injectors, use sea foam. Sea cream cleans and stabilizes fuel and removes whatever water/moisture in the fuel.

Here nosotros go once again. Another "convert" to the SeaFoam ophidian oil marketing hype.

The visitor that sells the stuff does not even call itself a chemical visitor or an automotive visitor; the name is "SeaFoam Sales".
They are actually good at sales. Their production is a jack of all trades and principal of none.

If you want a really good carb, injector or fuel system cleaner......use Berrymans B12 Chemtool or Gumout. All others are wanna bees.
Techron is good for injector maintenance but B12 and Gumout are better heavy duty cleaners.
